In Grief on November 2, 2008 at 11:48 pm

ORIGINAL INTERVIEW — In an interview they recorded for StoryCorps on the 13th anniversary of his death, Doris and Lisa Cohen recall what helped them survive the suicide of Doris’s husband and Lisa’s father. “Without you,” Doris tells her daughter, “I couldn’t have handled it at all.”

“I said, ‘I’m never taking a walk again,’ and you said, ‘Well, that’s OK. But just for now, let’s take a walk.’”

Editor’s note: Since 2003, thousands of people have interviewed family and friends through StoryCorps, one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. The interviews are archived at the Library of Congress.
